CIT Application
Counselor in Training
A Message From Clay, Former Camp Foley Camper
Are you registered for camp? You must be registered for camp before you apply to be a CIT. Talk to your parents and get registered!
Be a CIT
CITs must be entering 11th grade, and have completed at least one year of the Leadership Program. Our CITs are role models that every camper – young and old – looks up to. CITs spend a great deal of time learning skills that will help them in all areas of their life. As our CITs are closer to applying for college, honors programs, and life after high school, we will teach skills that are sought after in applicants their age. CITs are expected to seek out opportunities to use all the skills they have learned in the Leadership Program, and make a positive impact within the Foley Community.
What You’ll Do.
CIT Classes: One activity period for the first 3 sign ups will be dedicated to CIT Class (a fourth sign up may be added if the CITs and CIT instructor believe it would be beneficial). The CIT program will help you continue to develop personally and provide workshops to teach you everyday life and professional skills. As a CIT, more advanced workshops will be available to you, in order to prepare you for the more responsibilities an 11th grade student may have.
Personal Growth
- Focus on skills that colleges and jobs look for in applicants
- Motivation and Inspiration Techniques
- Practice Management Skills
- Learn Time Management Skills
Life Skills
- Give input on which Life Skill Workshops are offered
- Complete at least two Life Skill Workshops
- Examples: Car Maintenance, Meal Prep & Cooking, Navigation/Travel, etc.
Professional Skills
- Give input on which Professional Skill Workshops are offered
- Pass at least two Professional Skill Workshops
- Examples: College Essay and Application Tips, Asking for Letters of Recommendation, etc.
CIT Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to):
- Younger Camper Outreach: CITs are assigned different ways to build relationships with Fox and Coyote campers during the three weeks of camp. CITs may plan an evening activity for a younger cabin, help decorate outside their cabin, and coordinate ways to acknowledge the accomplishments of younger campers.
- Activity Apprentice: 3 days of class will be dedicated specifically to how to teach activities. You will select an activity and spend time getting better at both the skills of the class as well as the other skills you need to facilitate (fixing equipment ,set up and take down, finding out where things are, etc.) Usually, CITs pick an activity they may want to teach as a counselor.
The CIT/Counselor Connection
Completion of the CIT program does not necessarily mean that a camper is guaranteed an invitation or acceptation to the Octo Internship or is guaranteed future employment as a counselor.
That being said: Participation in the CIT program is a big step towards becoming a Foley counselor and a step that we encourage campers to take.
One Last Thing
We require that participants are willing to act responsibly and respectfully as a part of our Leadership Program. Participants must be willing to learn and get along with others.
- A CIT is committed to doing their best to live as a role model in our camp community.
- Participants who fell short of following the Camp Foley Code of Living or adhering to camp policies in the past may not be eligible for the CIT program.
- Participants who fall short of following the Camp Foley Code of Living or adhering to camp policies while acting as a CIT may be removed from the program.
- Due to all of the unique opportunities of the CIT program, participants will only be able to commit to doing dishes nine times in a three-week session.
