To be eligible for the Activity Apprentice program, you must be going into 11th grade.
Our Activity Apprentices are dedicated leaders that are looking to become a skilled instructor in one or two activity areas. This is the ideal program for campers that want to sharpen their activity skills but don’t want to spend as much time away from their own camp experience. This program can also be combined 11th graders in the LIT program. Note: All CIT’s will also complete the Activity Apprentice program.
What You’ll Do.
Activity Apprentice Classes: One activity period of one 3 day sign up will be spent learning the ropes of an activity of your choice, and how to be a great activity instructor.
Activity Apprentice Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to):
- Block 1: Learn a little about the behind the scenes of your activity. These are things you may not see staff doing but are essential to make the activities run properly or skills you will for sure need when you become a counselor.
- Block 2: Assist a basic class using the proper lesson plans that the staff will give to you.
- Block 3: Plan a “shake up” activity that should take 30-60 minutes. This may be done during an activity period, an open activity block, morning fun or free swim.
- The Future: Debrief about what you can do between the end of camp and your future employment at camp to get even better at this activity.
The Activity Apprentice/Counselor Connection
Completion of this program does not necessarily mean that a camper is guaranteed an invitation or acceptation to the Octo Internship or is guaranteed future employment as a counselor. That being said: Participation in the Activity Apprentice program is a big step towards becoming a Foley counselor and a step that we encourage campers to take.
Activity Apprentice is for campers going in to 11th grade next fall.
