East side vs. West side… this sounds like a cross town rival football game or an old school musical. Well here at Foley it’s nothing more than the Boys side of camp and Girls side of camp.
Naturally Camp overlooks Whitefish Lake looking south with across the road to the tree houses being North leaving the East end the boys end and the West end the girls.
Each end has multiple cabins and a washo for showers and bathroom uses, but there are a few differences between each end of camp. I can already hear the burning question, what’s the East end got that the west end doesn’t? Well luck just so happens to be I have a list of 8 things some people might not know about the East End, and with them a little description of each.
So here we go:
8 things you might not know about the East End:
Hammocks overlook the lake!
Unlike the West end the boys cabins sit a little closer to the lake. This means some of the cabins get killer views. Even better yet when someone wants to relax on a Hammock, we have a few that swing between trees that overlook the lake. Talk about ultimate relaxation.
Paved Tetherball courts
Yes, you read that right 2 (T-W-O) paved circles that are used for tetherball. If tetherball was an Olympic sport there might be some gold medalist coming out of Foley. These courts house some of the most fierce tournaments that anyone has ever seen, sometimes it’s like pulling teeth to get campers (and staff) off the courts to go to the dining hall or their next activity.

Rock Circle of trust
Well, we hope we can trust you in the circle of trust, but yes we have a circle of giant rocks that sit on the east end overlooking the lake. This famous circle is used for many parts of camp life. One of the main uses for this area would be when the boys have their all cabin counsels.
Nature’s Air Conditioning
Summer days can get hot, like real hot, and cabins do not have air conditioning units. Well on the East End of camp we have a little secret, we use mother nature’s gift, the lake. Once the mid summer heat rolls in the days get hot, but with a nice breeze coming in off the lake it cools things right down. So yes, in a way we use mother nature’s air conditioning and open up the windows and let the nice cool lake breeze cool everything down just in time for a nice night’s sleep.
From 2 to 1 Washos
This one is not much of a secret, but yes, the east end used to have two washos. Boys used to have access to two separate bathrooms but over the years we have condensed it down to just one. BUT!!! (one “t”) In the near future we are hoping to build a brand new washo on the east end! With patience comes great rewards!
Service Road
To the naked eye you may not notice it, but yes there is a road that goes through the east end of camp. This service road is used for easy access for maintenance and when we have to pick up sticks but also if emergency vehicles need to get down to the cabins.
Pump House
Nothing too exciting to report about this one, but yes the east end does house a pump house to get water to buildings that we use daily in the summer time.
We have an upstairs!
The last one might be a surprise to some unless you’ve walked down to the fathers cabin on the east end. Kad/Shing has an upstairs! Although we do not use it for campers there are two separate rooms in the cabin.

Well there it is…8 things you may or may not have known about the East side of camp.
Until next time.
Peace out!
