As admin of Camp Foley, we are always trying to put into words of why camp is so great and why everyone should come!
So it’s always nice to hear from the campers themselves about why they think summer camp is so important. I’m excited to share an essay written by 8 year old Caleb Nelson. Caleb started coming to Foley in 2022 and will be back for his 3rd summer. Caleb has a special connection to overnight camp, his parents own and operate Camp Kamaji, so he had the insider scoop before even becoming a Foley camper.

Overnight camp
By: caleb N
Do you like activities such as water skiing, archery, riflery and sailing? Do you like being outside and meeting new people? If you do, then overnight camp is for you.
I believe everyone should go to an overnight camp. One reason everyone should go to an overnight camp is because you get to do activities. For example, you can try rifling, archery, water skiing, sailing, and more. it is so fun plus you don’t do it every day normally, but at overnight camp you can do this every day!
You can hang out with friends and meet new people. For example, people come from all over the country or even the world staff come from all over the country too. At my parents’ overnight camp, there are people that travel all the way from Mexico! You might also meet someone that lives close to you and then you could meet up with them at home too. This is important because you can make new friends and visit each other when you’re not at camp!
Finally, overnight camp is great because you can spend a lot of time in nature. You can be in the lake, you can go on hiking trips in the forest, you can sleep in cabins with friends in the forest, and you can see animals. For example, you might see deer, foxes, hawks, and even bald eagles! It’s good to spend time in nature because you can get fresh air and play. It’s also very relaxing.
To wrap it all up, this is why everyone should go to an overnight camp. Activities hanging out with friends and meeting new people and spending time in nature.
