It is the first week of Camp Moves Me!
We have raised over $560 so far for kids to come to camp, and we want to continue on this great path to breaking $100,000 earned over the past 5 years! Last year alone we raised over $20,000. We thought it would be more powerful to hear from the parents of scholarship campers. Below are some quotes from parents who got to send their kids to camp thanks to all of you!
If you would like to donate to our Camp Moves Me campaign you can head HERE…
From the Mother of a Boy scholarship Camper:
” The format for camp went from two week sessions, which were already a financial stretch, to three week sessions. I wasn’t sure if we were going to be able to make our son’s dream a reality. I started crunching numbers desperately trying to figure out how I would come up with the extra funds. With the financial responsibilities of a special needs sibling, an ever growing debt load trying to keep our family afloat, and the thought of my child’s glowing face when he professed his love for Camp Foley, I was near tears! I picked up the phone to call camp. I’ll never forget the calm in Alli’s voice and how she made me feel completely normal for calling with the concern that I couldn’t afford to send my child to camp. She explained to me about the Camp Foley Scholarship Fund. Through the generous donations of other Foley families, kids who might not normally be able to go to camp are afforded an extraordinary opportunity. I can’t describe the heaviness that was lifted off me that day!
I knew his time at Camp Foley was too important to miss. The independence, leadership, maturity, development and growth that happens every summer is unmistakable. When he comes back to us after camp, my husband and I always marvel “something is different”. Sometimes it’s hard to put your finger on exactly what it is but we notice he’s a little more confident, holds his head a little higher, he’s politer, more passionate and a lot more compassionate. We have watched him cry in fear of going to camp alone only to witness him crying because he’s sad to leave camp. We’ve received letters “I’m going to get to shoot a 20 gauge shotgun, SERIOUSLY!” “I DESTROYED my first clay disc today”. “I got up on waterskis today”. “You won’t believe it, I got my Wakeboard Beginner award”. We love the wild camp tales and fun exploration of new found interests. My son asked his Dad if there was anywhere they could go shooting when he returned home. They went and shot clay discs for the first time together and had an amazing day. We love that he gets to be unplugged, to dialogue in person, pushed to explore new things, stretched and challenged in his beliefs about the world and himself. I know our child is richer for the relationships and experiences he’s had at camp. I know he relates differently to the world from his experiences at camp. I know camp is too important to miss! Thank you for making camp happen and being a partner in raising an extraordinary kid!”
From the Mother of a Girl scholarship camper:
” The Camp Foley scholarship fund has been a Godsend. As a single mom with no financial support from an ex, it has made it possible for my daughter to go to Camp Foley. She absolutely LOVES camp- the friends she has made, the goals she has achieved, basically EVERYTHING about Camp Foley carries forward through out the year. She has definitely grown grit and taken on greater leadership, enhanced respect for herself and others, and found discipline and courage to try and succeed at new things. She plans to be a counselor someday and give back to the camp she lives so much. Camp Foley has been a tremendous experience for our family and we could not be more grateful for the experience!”
Please help us send even more kids to camp so we can help even more kids grow, gain grit, and build independence! The impacts is greater than you can imagine…
