Big News from Camp Foley!
We have something HUGE to celebrate… Camp Foley has officially earned the Gold MESH(+) Seal from the Alliance for Camp Health! This is the highest seal a camp can earn, and it means we’re recognized as one of the top camps in the country when it comes to caring for campers’ mental, emotional, and social health (that’s what MESH stands for). Dr. Tracey Gaslin, CEO of the Alliance for Camp Health, explained it this way: “When you entrust your child to a summer camp, you want to know they’ll thrive in every way. The MESH(+) Seal represents our investment in creating camp programs where traditional camp fun meets evidence-based well-being practices.”
The MESH(+) Seal process included a comprehensive review of how Camp Foley addresses mental, emotional, and social health through systematic approaches to programming, specialized staff training, ongoing screening measures, and individualized care protocols. The MESH(+) framework addresses the reality that childhood mental health challenges have intensified in our postpandemic landscape. Camps equipped with MESH(+) practices are positioned to serve as vital spaces for both joy and healing, helping every camper develop the connections and resilience that enable them to flourish both at camp and beyond.
So… what does that mean for campers? It means Camp Foley doesn’t just stop at campfires, s’mores, and awesome activities (though we love those too). We go the extra mile to make sure every camper feels safe, supported, and included from the moment they arrive, all the way through their time here.
The MESH(+) Seal looks at four big areas that make camp a safe and secure for kids:
- Programs – fun and meaningful activities that help campers grow and build confidence.
- Training – making sure staff are ready to support every camper with care and kindness, many of our staff trainings have a focus on MESH(+).
- Screening & Intake – welcoming campers in a way that helps everyone feel safe and prepared.
- Care – having plans in place for medication, health needs, and overall well-being.
By focusing on these, Camp Foley makes sure every camper can build friendships, learn resilience, and feel a true sense of belonging. Executive Director Alli Faricy says it best: “This recognition shows our commitment to what young people need most in the world right now, belonging, joy, and connection. We want every camper to leave Foley with resilience, confidence, and skills that last long after camp.” For us, that means Camp Foley is more than just a summer getaway. It’s a place where kids can laugh, play, and explore nature, while also learning life skills, building resilience, and forming friendships that last forever.
