First time camper at Camp Foley you say? Well let me break down some advice a first time camper may want to know while at Camp Foley!
Just Breathe
The first piece of advice I’d share with a first time camper is, just breathe! With all the emotions leading up to camp it can sometimes feel a little overwhelming, so just take a second and breathe. Emotions can run all over the place from the moment you start packing to your first step on camp property. I want you to remember that every single person at camp, at one point, it was their first time here too! Everyone has been through the roller coaster of emotions so we all get it. Just take a moment and take it in, breathe.

Don’t be afraid
The second little bit of advice I’d give to a first time camper is don’t be afraid. Afraid of what? Afraid of anything… activities, the lake, the food, failure, getting to know new people, here at camp we’re all one community and we’re in this together. If you struggle at an activity, it’s ok, that’s how we grow grit and improve our skills and knowledge. There is a huge support system built into camp to help get you through the tough times and the best times. Walk into camp with an open mind, thinking that you can accomplish anything!
Try new things
The third highly recommended piece of advice I’d give to a new camper is to try new things! This piece sort of goes along with not being afraid because trying new things can be scary at times but remember that the support system runs deep here. The staff is here to show you how to do any and all activities! Trying new things does not stop with just the activities, it also goes into trying new food! Here at Camp Foley we have some of the best camp food around! Our Chef, David, is always creating something new and tasty, every summer he comes to camp with fresh new ideas, like sail boat shaped pasta for mac and cheese or homemade pizza crust! We have a saying here at camp, when you try something new for the first time, we call it a “Foley First”.So this summer let’s see how many Foley First you can knock out!

The fourth thing I’d advise is checking out our blogs on our website! If you’re reading this one, don’t stop, these blogs are packed with information! Check them out here.
The fifth and last bit of advice (for now) I would like to recommend is ask questions! If you’re not sure about an activity or the daily schedule… just ask! As said before, the well trained summer staff and admin team are here for you! We’re here and ready to help, all you have to do is ask!
From here to there, keep it real!
